Crater Trueblood was born in Armstrong City, Luna, in 2112. His mother died shortly after giving Crater birth due to injuries received in the crash of a moonlander which also killed his father.
Crater was given to a married couple who journeyed across the moon to Moontown to work as miners on the Helium-3 scrapes. After both adoptive parents were killed in mining accidents, Crater became a ward of Q-Bess, the operator of the Dust Palace Hotel.
The day after his 12th birthday, Crater began work on the scrapes as a scragline picker.

Petro
Philip Earl Thomas Reginald Osgood Mountbatten-Windsor-Jones, also known as the Prince of Wales, also known as Petro Jones was born in Homer, Canadalaska in 2109. Q-Bess, his mother and the pretender to the throne of Great Britain and the Misty Isles, fled to the moon in 2110 where she became operator of the Dust Palace Hotel in Moontown.
Petro grew up in the company of a variety of transient miners who taught him many things including how to fight, how to drive fast, and how to play cards. He also shared a living tube with Crater Trueblood, his foster brother. When he was 15, his mother ordered him to start working on the scrapes.

Maria
Maria High Eagle Medaris is the granddaughter of the owner of the Medaris Mining Company, Moontown, Luna. Born in Huntsville, Alabama, Independent Southern States of America, in 2112, she is the youngest graduate on record of Virginia Tech University where she majored in Interplanetary Finance and Physics.
As a member of one of the wealthiest families on Earth and the moon, Maria was raised to assume a leadership role in that family. When she was twelve, she had already built several companies worth billions of johncredits. At 15, her parents sent her to the moon to work for her grandfather, Colonel John H. E. Medaris. With the Colonel as a partner, she founded the Medaris Convoy Company.
Colonel John High Eagle Medaris, known as "the Colonel," is the grandson of Jack Medaris and Penny High Eagle, the famous adventurers and entrepreneurs who made a fortune in space transportation, most of which was lost during the wars of independence. A graduate of the ISSA Military Academy, the Colonel led an airmobile battalion in the wars of independence in the late 21st Century where he was repeatedly decorated.
When Japanese scientists perfected fusion energy in 2189, he pioneered the route to the moon and opened one of the first Helium-3 scrapes while founding the settlement known as Moontown, located in the Lunar Alpine Valley. Founder of the Medaris Cycler Company, board member and investor of the Lunar Elevator Company, the Colonel and his family are now one of the richest in history.

Gillie
The gillie is a sentient biocomputer manufactured primarily from slime mold cells. Believed to be the last of its kind, it was built by the Macingillie Corporation of Shanghai, Third Republic of East China. Gillies were designed to assist their owners with communications, administration, scheduling, research, and advice. They were outlawed by nearly every Earthly nation in 2107 after several broke into secure computers and released classified information. There were also many owner complaints about their tendency to give advice when it wasn't asked for. There is at least one case on record where a widow claimed that her dead husband's gillie was actually her husband and asked for a divorce.
